RAIL Magazine

Copies of RAIL Magazine from 1992.

In its day, RAIL Magazine was the magazine for those following the present day scene.  These days it is the magazine which desperately wants to be Modern Railways! However, in the era of Murray Brown and Philip Sutton it took some beating.

Maybe it was that RAIL was the only way for most enthusiasts to find out details of news, developments and stock movements (and how many people used to update the details in their Platform 5 books using RAIL?!) before the days on having so much information available online.

As a primary source, magazines from the era you’re modelling are a wonderful resource – they capture things in a way which books from years later can’t, there’s no nostalgia, just how things were. And, of course, there’s a book’s worth of photos from every fortnight in RAIL too.
